Summer 2017 Swimwear Trends

It’s getting warmer and warmer outside which means Summer is almost here….YAY!

The most exciting time of the year is on its way: we’re talking of course about the season of buying a new summer swimsuit! Whether you’re a fan of exotic flowers or prefer the classics, the possibilities are almost infinite. To help you choose the right swimsuit - check out some trends and tips for the season…….

One-piece bathing suits and cover-ups are trending

This season, we’re taking a second look at preconceived ideas. Good old-fashioned one-piece bathing suits are no longer just for swimming or covering up. They come in styles and colours that exude glamour and elegance. The same thing goes for beach dresses and shorts. No longer restricted to tiny skirts and long, shapeless shawls, cover-ups have begun to earn respect and become a fashion accessory themselves. Sophisticated and versatile, they’re perfect to slip on for a restaurant outing or a barbecue with friends. For sporty types, a simple beach hoodie with a chill vibe will get you from the lake to the patio in the blink of an eye.

The two-piece swimsuit in all its forms

Two-piece bathing suits remain as popular as ever and go with every taste. This season is seriously yoga inspired, giving us stylish backs accentuated by multi-banded, knotted or spaghetti straps. Add to this the influence of fine lingerie with the bralette, a delicate triangle-shaped bra that’s coming out of the underwear drawers to parade down the beach. As for bottoms, if you’re surfing the cutting edge of fashion, waists are higher and shorts are shorter. If you’re really daring, you might choose the Tanga, a hot new cut that exposes even more bum than the Brazilian.

Patterns and prints are beach bound

The trend in prints this summer is towards the eclectic. Hawaiian-inspired tropical motifs add a retro touch that recalls the beginnings of the surf movement. Vibrant colours and Mexican folklore are also hot. There’s plenty to choose from, with two-colour, three-colour and multi-coloured prints—not to mention flowers on striped backgrounds—that make it difficult to choose!

This summer, fashion gets deconstructed: it’s time to choose separate bottoms and tops from such an abundance of styles and colours to express who you are and push print combinations to the limits. Absolutely anything is possible.

A swimsuit for each body type

There are plenty of tips to put your best shape forward. For smaller busts, go for a push-up, a bandeau or triangle shape with halter. To highlight an ample bust, choose an underwire or balconette bikini top with wide straps for both style and support. To slim the legs, go for a scooped bottom. Or if your hips have a lot of va-voom, forget about Brazilian-style side ties, and slip confidently into a one-piece. Finally, there’ll be no more little butterflies in that little belly with trendy high-waisted bottoms.

For prints and patterns, throw convention to the wind. Forget about thinning vertical stripes or the ban on little flowers for larger sizes. Go for whatever makes you feel good!

As summer activities become increasingly varied, swimsuits continue to evolve. There are plenty of brilliant bathing suits that are ready to be slipped on so that you can hit the beach in with support, style and femininity. Most of all, when shopping around, don’t be shy to ask the staff to help you choose the style that speaks to you and best suits your summer fun and your silhouette!
